Taiwan-based Crypto Exchange WOO Temporarily Freezes Withdrawals

Taiwan-based crypto exchange WOO has temporarily suspended withdrawals after $14 million worth of crypto was stolen from nine users in an apparent hack. 

The exploit originated from a team member's device being compromised in a targeted phishing attack, which allowed the attacker to gain access to the development environment. Read more about the attack on X. 

Roman Storm says he’s been ‘financially cancelled’ after payroll firm axe

Tornado Cash founder Roman Storm says he's been 'financially cancelled.' His payroll provider, Gusto, suddenly shut down his account during his ongoing trial in the US for money laundering. In a letter explaining the termination, Gusto pointed to an 'extensive review' and bluntly stated they 'won't reverse this decision.' Storm claims many financial services now blacklist defendants before they're even convicted. He says this freeze-out makes it incredibly hard to manage his money while he fights charges that could land him in prison for over 20 years.

Bitcoin torture suspects granted bail in Manhattan court

A Manhattan judge granted bail to John Woeltz (known as the 'Crypto King of Kentucky') and William Duplessie, who face 12 charges for allegedly kidnapping and torturing an Italian Bitcoin trader. Each must post a $1 million bond and wear an ankle monitor. Prosecutors say the pair held the victim captive for two weeks in a SoHo townhouse, where they used a chainsaw, cattle prod, and gun to torture him while demanding his cryptocurrency keys. They also allegedly threatened his family.

Hoskinson to Livestream ADA Audit Amid $600M Misappropriation Allegations

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson says he'll livestream an independent audit of ADA holdings in mid-August to address explosive allegations. NFT artist Masato Alexander claims Hoskinson manipulated Cardano's ledger during the 2021 Allegra update to seize $619 million in unclaimed ADA tokens. Hoskinson firmly denies this, stating the funds were donated to governance group Intersect. He's releasing the full audit report live to prove transparency amid accusations of $600 million misappropriation.

Bitcoin’s 4-Year Cycle Theory Is Dead as Whale Strategy Has Shifted, Analysts Say

Crypto Quant CEO Ki Young Ju declares Bitcoin's classic four-year boom-bust cycle is over. He says big whales are now selling directly to institutional players, 'new long-term whales', instead of retail traders, fundamentally changing how the market works. 

Ju admits he got it wrong back in April when he called the bull run over with Bitcoin at $84,000. He underestimated how fast institutions would jump in as BTC soared past $120,000. 'Trading seems almost useless now,' he concedes. 'There are simply more holders than traders.' This signals a major shift: the market is moving away from short-term speculation tied to Bitcoin's halving events and toward steady, long-term accumulation.
