Tornado Cash's Roman Storm Found Guilty on One Charge in Partial Verdict
Roman Storm, the developer for Tornado Cash, was found guilty of operating an unlicensed money transmitter by a Manhattan jury. The jury did not convict on a sanctions charge and was deadlocked on a money laundering charge.
Tornado Cash Verdict Threatens to Hold Back DeFi Where it Matters Most
Roman Storm was found guilty of conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money-transmitting business, a charge carrying up to 5 years prison but the jury deadlocked on more severe money laundering and sanctions violation counts.
Prosecutors alleged Storm knowingly enabled $1B+ in illicit flows, including North Korean Lazarus Group funds, through the non-custodial privacy tool. The verdict sets a perilous precedent: developers may face liability for how open-source software is used, even without control over it.
SEC Drops Ripple Appeal Signaling Shift in Crypto Regulation — But Uncertainty Remains

Solana Labs and Jito Labs served Pump Fun lawsuit
Solana Labs and Jito Labs now face accusations of enabling Pump Fun's alleged $1.5 billion "illegal casino" operation, as law firms Wolf Popper and Burwick Law formally served them with a merged lawsuit this week. The suit alleges the blockchain infrastructure providers acted as "co-conspirators," helping Pump Fun exploit their technology to dodge security laws and consumer protections while laundering crypto stolen from ByBit. Key Solana Foundation executives, including General Counsel Yelena Cavanaugh, were also served alongside the companies.
