The Great npm Heist That Wasn't

On September 8, attackers phished maintainer Josh Junon into resetting his 2FA, gaining control of 18 high-traffic npm packages (including chalk and debug). They slipped in a crypto-clipper designed to hijack wallet addresses, but mistakenly deployed it to server-side code, where it crashed CI/CD pipelines, immediately revealing the attack. Maintainers and security teams responded within minutes, pulling the malicious releases within hours.

Polymarket Taps Chainlink to Settle Price Bets

Polymarket has integrated Chainlink’s oracle infrastructure to speed up the resolution of asset price markets, cutting settlement times from hours to near-instant. Chainlink co-founder Sergey Nazarov said the move will make prediction markets more reliable by using tamper-proof data. UMA remains the backstop for disputes, while Chainlink handles clear, objective outcomes.

Tether launches new USAT stablecoin led by Trump’s former advisor Bo Hines

Tether announced USAT, a new dollar-backed stablecoin designed to comply with the GENIUS Act. Built on Tether’s Hadron tokenization platform, USAT will be issued by Anchorage Digital Bank with Cantor Fitzgerald as custodian. The project is led by Bo Hines, a former Trump advisor and White House Crypto Council director.
