Crypto Markets See Moderate Gains as US Inflation Hits 3%
Crypto markets edged higher on Friday after new U.S. data showed annual inflation rising to 3%, reinforcing expectations that the Federal Reserve could cut interest rates next week. Bitcoin (BTC) gained 2% to briefly surpass $111,500, while Ethereum (ETH) rose 2.6% to $3,973, and BNB advanced 2.8% following news of a U.S. presidential pardon for Binance founder Changpeng Zhao. The total crypto market capitalization climbed 1.5% to $3.85 trillion, reflecting renewed investor optimism despite persistent macroeconomic and geopolitical uncertainty. Analysts at Glassnode noted that Bitcoin’s unrealized losses remain below 5%, indicating the current bull market is still strong and more resilient than previous cycles.
Ledger Faces Backlash for Charging Fees on ‘Free’ Security Upgrade
Ledger is under fire after revealing that its new “clear signing” feature for multisig wallets, initially promoted as free, will in fact include transaction fees. The feature, designed to prevent “blind signing” attacks like February’s $1.5 billion Bybit exploit, was initially praised for improving wallet security. But users soon discovered the fine print: each multisig transaction will carry either a $10 flat fee or a 0.05% charge on the transfer amount, on top of standard gas fees. Ledger CTO Charles Guillemet, who had previously described the feature as “free,” later called that statement a “typo” and confirmed that multisig transactions are part of a paid service.
