Microsoft Raises Alarm of Malware Targeting Coinbase, MetaMask Wallets
Microsoft has warned of a new malware, StilachiRAT, targeting 20 popular crypto wallets like MetaMask and Coinbase. The malware can steal sensitive data and evade detection. While the malwareโs origin remains unknown, Microsoft advises users to install antivirus software to mitigate risks.
Cosmos gets native EVM framework as it open-sources Evmos
Cosmos has made Evmos open-source and embedded it as the primary Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) framework in its ecosystem. This ensures full EVM compatibility across more than 200 app chains, enhances cross-chain interoperability, and establishes uniform EVM support throughout Cosmos. Despite the announcement, the Evmos token declined by over 30%.
Tornado Cash Token Soars as U.S. Lifts OFAC Sanctions
Tornado Cash token (TORN) surged 35% to $11.56 after the U.S. Treasury Department removed the decentralized crypto mixer from its sanctions list, lifting restrictions imposed in 2022 over alleged money laundering ties to North Koreaโs Lazarus Group. This decision follows a November 2024 court ruling overturning the sanctions, which had previously sent TORN on a 470% rally. Despite the legal victory, Tornado Cash developers Roman Storm and Alexey Pertsev remain imprisoned on money laundering charges, prompting calls for their release and reimbursement from privacy advocates like Balaji Srinivasan. The delisting marks a significant moment for crypto privacy tools and their legal standing in the U.S.
Ethereum Developers Delay Pectra Upgrade Mainnet Launch
Ethereum developers have decided to delay the mainnet launch of the Pectra upgrade, originally scheduled for April, until thorough testing on the Hoodi testnet is completed. The new mainnet launch date will be set at least 30 days after Hoodiโs fork on March 26, with ongoing tests on Holesky and Sepholia to ensure features like account abstraction and Layer 2 scalability are ready. Additionally, developers outlined key deadlines for the next upgrade, Fusaka, including EIP submissions by March 24 and finalizing its scope by April 10.
